A gel can help decrease HIV?

In South Africa, scientists have found a gel women can apply to the vaginal area that can help reduce their chance of contracting HIV. The actual gel contains tenofovir, an “antiretroviral drug that prevents HIV from growing in human cells.” This will provide women more control, giving them the power to protect themselves from men who don’t want to use condoms. “Women apply the gel 12 hours before sexual intercourse and a second time, as soon as possible within 12 hours afterwards. Michel Sidibe said the simplicity of the gel will be the key to its appeal and effectiveness.”
