In the Jan. 24 Washington Post, HAHSTA Director Dr. Shannon Hader’s opinion piece recognized the impact that the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has had in fighting HIV/AIDS abroad. She has seen it work first-hand in many African nations, and wonders about the potential for fighting HIV/AIDS in the United States and in Washington, D.C., if only we used those resources here.
And yet, this fight in D.C. and nationally will not be put on hold. Instead, we continually think of innovative, engaging ways to encourage our residents to know their HIV status, use condoms, and get into or stay in treatment if infected.
