The Wrap M.C. certification is an initiative of the DC Department of Health HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD & Tuberculosis Administration (HAHSTA), DC Public Schools (DCPS), and the Office of the State Superintendent (OSSE). Members of the Wrap M.C. team are resource points for their schools, communities and peers in distributing condoms and educating on what condoms protect against, how to use them, and how to negotiate condom use with partners.
The revised condom availability policy for the DC Public Schools and Charter Schools allows for any trained staff member or student to distribute condoms, not just the school nurse. The Wrap M.C. program ensures that all persons distributing condoms to young people, either in the schools or in the community, have accurate and up-to-date information on condoms and their use.
Those who wish to distribute condoms in schools must complete the webinar, pass the post-test, and provide a copy of their Wrap M.C. certificate to the school’s Wrap M.C. coordinator. Upon successfully passing the post test, HAHSTA will provide you with all materials needed to distribute condoms in the school.
Students are encouraged to become a part of the Wrap M.C. program and become certified to promote condom use among their peers. They should speak with their Wrap M.C. coordinator at their school or community agency for information specific to their school or agency. HAHSTA will provide new Wrap M.C.s with condoms and other materials once they have successfully passed the post-test.
We’re excited to have you join us, either to be a condom distributor/promoter, or just to learn about condom use. Check back in with our blog to get the latest updates about our team and to stay current on the newest STD and condom news in the District.
